Who is T. Neal Harvey?

Hi, I’m Neal Harvey and I’m a Learning Experience Designer and Developer living in Central Texas.

I grew up in Southern California and my love of all things technical began with typing in code for simple games on my grandfather’s Apple IIe and helping my father build our first Windows 3.1 computers.

I started as an instructional designer in 2011 as part of a pilot program helping the Veterans Health Administration transition to a medical home model (culture). Thrown into the deep end, I taught myself graphic design, video editing, and LMS administration (to name a few of the skills needed), and managed Subject Matter Experts and stakeholders for multiple projects at high levels. I went on to transition in person training to live virtual training and eLearning.

Today, I specialize in eLearning design and development, having developed 3D environments, branching scenarios, and interfaces using pure HTML/CSS/JavaScript that integrate with standard learning platforms. I love to take on complex challenges that bring out my technical expertise and background in cognition and learning. I’ve also been working with LLMs and generative AI as tools for expediting and enriching my expertise and products.

I hold a Masters of Linguistics (with a focus on Second Language Teaching) from California State University Long Beach and a Bachelors of Linguistics from University of Oregon. My degree work brings a deep understanding of the language and cognition of instruction and learning.

These days, I live in San Marcos with my wife Kim, our two kids, and an ever-increasing menagerie of pets.

Experiences with Purpose and Impact

I started off coordinating training events and spicing up PowerPoints, but quickly developed my skill sets to end up leading curriculum design and development at a national level. I’ve since taken on more technical roles in addition to leadership and executive stakeholder management.
